Deaf Action Foundation & Advocacy (DAFA)

Deaf Action Foundation & Advocacy (DAFA) is the agency designated under Ghana law to protect and advocate for the rights of Ghanaians with disabilities such as deaf and hard of hearing people.

We work in legal representation, advocacy services, investigations, and public policy, and provide information, advice, referral, and community outreach.

For four years, DAFA has worked to advance the rights of Ghanaians with disabilities in education, employment, independence, health, and safety, and has grown into the largest disability rights organization in the nation.

Rachel Akusake

Founder and Director

Serving on Deaf Action Foundation & Advocacy Committee(s).
Rachel has an A.A. degree in African-American History, Principles/retailing, Computer Access, African Heritage of Latin American, Introduction to Physical Anthropology, Critical Thinking, Interpersonal Communication Skills, Physical Anthropology lab, and a certificate in Paralegal program.
She is pursuing to receive a B.A degree in political science.

Rachel is the founder of the Deaf Action Foundation & Advocacy in March 2020 in Ghana. She is on the board and the administration.

Mary Apam

Advocates

Mary is involved in speaking up and supporting on the behalf of deaf women and girls as advocates. Mary is interested in working with DAFA since she has a deaf person in her family.

Theodore Oklu

Ghana Sign Language Instructor and Advisor

Theodore is hearing and knows the Ghana Sign Language. Theo has been working as an advocate with the Ghana National Association of the Deaf for a long time. Theo used to work with representative hearing people on behalf of deaf people. Theo used to work as PRO with NDC and has since retired. He is currently instructing hearing pupils of a Catholic School as a volunteer.
